Dog teams have a very special role in the world of search and rescue, as their keen sense of smell, enhanced hearing, night vision and endurance have continually proven to be invaluable in the effort to locate missing persons. Because of their extraordinary abilities, dogs are often able to reduce the time spent searching, thereby increasing the chances that the missing person will be found alive. Experts estimate that a single dog team can be as effective as 20 to 30 trained human searchers in locating a missing person in a given period of time.
Search and Rescue dogs can be trained in land cadaver, water cadaver, tracking, trailing, air scenting, urban or wilderness search and rescue. Tracking and trailing dogs can be trained for scent discrimination, wilderness tracking or variable surface / hard surface tracking. Some dogs can be cross-trained in a number of these areas.
Our Search and Rescue dog training is progressive and taught by active search and rescue dog handlers. Our dogs are trained in some of the most rigorous environments on the east coast. Some of the dogs that we have trained have proven themselves during disasters such as tornadoes, Hurricane Katrina, and other natural disasters across the country. All of our Search and Rescue dog programs come with a comprehensive handler course and all course materials.
If you already own a dog that you are considering for search and rescue training, give us a call and we will be happy to assist you in evaluating your dog for search and rescue training and setting up a training program that fits your needs. If you already have a SAR K-9, we offer in-service training, problem solving, American Red Cross Pet CPR and First Aid certification, Search and Rescue Seminars and a comprehensive handler course. Call us today to discuss your individual or team needs!
Our instructors are volunteer search and rescue K-9 handlers and certified SARTECH's by the National Association for Search and Rescue. As such, we are able to provide you with fully trained search and rescue dogs in a variety of breeds. If you have your own dog and are interested in search and rescue work, we are more than happy to evaluate your dog and, if appropriate, set up a training program for you and your dog.
