Our Facility
Our idyllic rural
setting is just 5 minutes from Interstate 77 North of Statesville, NC. Set
in its own landscaped grounds totalling some 17+ acres, Highland Canine
Training boasts some of the most comprehensive kennelling, dog training
and breeding facilities to be found anywhere in Western North Carolina.
Highland Canine Training, LLC has acres of landscaped training fields for
obedience, tracking, protection, and other dog events. We have facilities
for herding, tracking, detection and many other training venues.
Our facility is nestled in the foothills of the BlueRidge Mountains and provides for a great environment that is conducive for learning for either dogs or people.
Kennels
Our
separate kennel facilities are cleaned and disinfected several times daily
and each dog is allowed free exercise in addition to the time that they
are training each day. We offer climate controlled kenneling and can handle
dogs with special needs. Oversized kennels are available for large dogs
or dogs from the same household that are staying together. Every socialized
dog has hours of daily playtime with other socialized students. Our kennels
include over one and one-half acres of secure exercise area. Our huge, landscaped
exercise areas are designed with your dog’s happiness and well-being
in mind.
Student Training Areas


Our student instruction takes place in a climate controlled classroom adjacent to a fenced outdoor off-leash training yard as well as varied outdoor areas designed to give students the greatest opportunity to gain practical experience. From a rubble pile for Urban Search and Rescue Training to miles of wilderness trails over creeks and meadows for varied tracking and trailing excercies, Highland Canine students are offered a variety of learning environments. Here at Highland Canine Training, LLC, students have access to many different learning environments for the best possible training experience.
Student Housing
Our student housing
is a spacious three bedroom / two bath residence conveniently located within
walking distance of our kennels and training areas. Our comfortable student
housing is a fully furnished 1,900 sq/ft home that comes equipped with a
refrigerator, microwave, gas stove, high-speed wireless internet connection,
telephone, on-site laundry facilities (washer/dryer), gas fireplace and
two satellite televisions. Our student housing also offers two spacious
decks and a gas grill for cooking outdoors.
Herding
We
have a fenced area established for herding training and have a flock of
sheep here that our staff maintans for training. We have a large area for
herding with gates, chutes, etc. to prepare your dog for herding trials
or to simply teach them to herd sheep or other animals for stimulation and
exercise. Herding classes are an exciting Spring class.
Agility
We offer an
agility/obstacle course for working dog training and for those clients who
want more of a challenge for their dog. Our agility area has a multitude
of obstacles including an "A" frame. hurdles, swinging bridge,
a palisade and more agility obstacles are being added as we are able. Our
agility course is designed with working dogs in mind, therefore we have
many obstacles that are utilized in certifications for police organizations
as well as FEMA.
Off-Site Facilities
Because of our central location, we are able to utilize many off-site training
facilities for working dog training. We have several large state parks within
a short drive of our facility that we often use for tracking/trailing and
search and rescue training. We also have several local businesses that allow
us access to hundreds of vehicles and tractor trailers for searches and
other training. Located within minutes of our dog training facility are
several rubble piles that are used for training search and rescue dogs.
We also have access to various ponds and lakes for training water cadaver
detection dogs.
