Included with the cost of any detection dog is a comprehensive three-week handler course to fully integrate the dog and handler before putting them on the street. This course includes practical exercises as well as lecture on Record Keeping and Report Writing, Scent Theory and Basic Detection, Advanced Detection and Interdiction Methods, Canine Case Law and many other topics. Literature and handouts are provided for all course content. All working dog packages include free in-service training and problem solving sessions, annual re-certification and housing at our facility.
Narcotics detection dogs are trained to your specifications with an aggressive (scratch) or passive (sit) alert. Narcotics detection dogs are trained to indicate on the following odors: marijuana, cocaine, heroin, methamphetamines and derivatives. At Highland Canine Training, LLC, we don't just train successful drug detection dogs...we train successful drug detection dog teams. A majority of the drug detection dog teams that we have trained have had substantial seizures, some within only a few hours of returning to duty. That's because we ensure that our dog teams are completely confident and well trained in criminal interdiction in addition to learning the skills
Explosives detection dogs are trained only with a passive alert. Explosives detection dogs are trained on the following odors: Nitrate and Chlorate Explosives Salts, PETN, TATP, RDX, TNT, Dynamite and derivative formulations. Our explosives detection handler courses are as intensive as our narcotics handler courses. We ensure that all of our handlers are completely comfortable with their new partner before completing our courses. Our rigorous certification program ensures that our handlers are completely capable of performing effectively when they return to the field.
